Chairwoman of Azerbaijan’s Union of Cinematographers: Rasim Ojagov is a symbol of our national cinema

Baku, November 19, AZERTAC
“There was an “island of films” in the Azerbaijani national cinematography - Rasim Ojagov’s films, which still exists and will ever live. As if he had created a world for himself - his own screenwriters, his own favorite actors, his own composers, his own creative staff, and this world was, in its true sense, his real life. He loved the life he lived for,” said Chairwoman of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan, People’s Artist Shafiga Mammadova in her notes regarding the 87th anniversary of an outstanding Azerbaijani cinematographer, film director and camera operator, laureate of State awards of Azerbaijan and USSR, People’s Artist Rasim Ojagov.
Sharing her memories of Rasim Ojagov, Shafiga Mammadova said: “I am so happy to have been a part of Rasim Ojagov’s films and being awarded high prizes. I was awarded the State Prizes of Azerbaijan and USSR for the movies “Birthday” and “Interrogation”. These films will always live in my life as the happiest and most beautiful memories.”
“Rasim Ojagov lived a meaningful and decent life, and he didn’t strive for the wealth of the world, because cinema was his greatest wealth and his life.
The camera, film set and his own world - these were his wealth, his asset. He had also bequeathed this wealth and all of his films to his people. The people always cherish his memory. Rasim Ojagov’s films will always live in our hearts,” she mentioned.
“I was very happy and felt free while on sets. It was Rasim Ojagov who had taught me how to feel free and happy, as well as to live and create in difficult moments while acting for the camera. I am grateful to Rasim Ojagov for this support! I am grateful to him for his great respect and attention paid to me, as well as for our long-term friendship.
“Rasim Ojagov, who has dedicated his life to the Azerbaijani cinema, has today become a symbol of our national cinematography!” Shafiga Mammadova said.

P.S. I have so many memories that if I am lucky I will also write a book of memories dedicated to Rasim Ojagov…
