Farmers who joined “From City to Village” project are being enlightened

As part of the “From City to Village” project implemented by “Agro Procurement and Supply” OJSC under the Ministry of Agriculture, informative trainings have been launched for the farmers operating in various regions who have applied for the project with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
The main purpose of these informative trainings is to familiarize local farmers with the basic principles and international practices of agritourism, provide them with the information about the topics on the meeting of the tourists who visit their farms, the organization of the nutrition, the arrangement of packaging and exhibition of the products, the ways of getting profit from the sale of the products on their farms and principally, on the topics of displaying the agro-tourism services.
The first training was held for the farmers who have joined “From City to Village” project from Lankaran and Astara. Sarkhan Sarkhanov, who is the member of the Board of “Agro Procurement and Supply” OJSC under the Ministry of Agriculture, spoke to the farmers participating in the training about the project's objectives, its benefits for the farmers, and stated that as a company, sustainable consultancy services will be provided to the farmers involved in the project.
Trainings on the topics of “Agritourism and Entrepreneurship ”and “Self-Awareness” are conducted by the trainers Soner Shahan and Isil Shahan, invited from Turkey.
Isil Shahan has many years of experience in marketing communications and human resources in the private sector. Meanwhile, he provided trainings for the people engaged in the tourism field and participated in the development of marketing strategies for various agencies. The trainer also worked as a director of corporate social responsibility projects at the Bogazici University. Soner Shahan is currently Strategic Project Advisor at the Bogazici University. He is a specialist in planning and managing projects implemented in various fields.
After the trainings, the Turkish specialists visited the farms of the farmers who have joined the project and were acquainted with the conditions.
It should be noted that “From City to Village" project is implemented by “Agro Procurement and Supply” OJSC under the Ministry of Agriculture in order to increase employment of the population living in the regions, create alternative sales channel and additional income for local farmer farms, as well as make different tourism opportunities for urban residents and foreign tourists. Currently, tours to the 11 farmers’ farms located in different regions on 7 various directions of the country are regularly organized in cooperation with the tourism companies involved in the project. Within the project, more than 40 agro tours have taken place so far. In total, more than 800 tourists joined the tour; nearly 150 of them were foreign tourists.
The next stage of the trainings for farmers who have joined the project with the participation of the trainers from Turkey will be held on February 14-15 in Ismayilli, and on February 16-17 in Zagatala.
