Israeli Gymnast Wins 6 Medals, Qualifies for 2020 Olympics
Baku, September 24, AZERTAC
Israeli rhythmic gymnast Linoy Ashram on Friday won a bronze medal in the all-around world championships and qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, according to TPS news agency.
The bronze was Ashram’s sixth medal in the competition, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Ashram was ranked first at the end of the first round but was then faulted with several inaccuracies which delegated her to third place, with a total score of 89.700. Ashram also won silver medals in the hoop, clubs and ribbon competitions, and a bronze in the ball competition. She was also a member of the Israeli team, together with Nicol Zelikman, Nicol Voronkov and Yuliana Telegina, who won a silver medal in the team competition. At 20-years-old, Ashram is a prime candidate for a medal in the Tokyo Olympics as Israel’s top individual rhythmic gymnast.
Peaking at the 37th FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Baku with six medals, Ashram has had a particularly successful summer in 2019, winning seven medals at international competitions, including three gold medals at the Grand Prix in March, and two gold and two silver medals at the European Games in June.
The all-around competition on Friday was the most important for Ashram, as it guaranteed her qualification for the Olympic games next summer, in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.
“It took me time to comprehend what happened, but I am already looking toward Tokyo,” she said after the successful competition.
