Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament visits Germany

Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Ogtay Asadov has visited Berlin, Germany.
He held meetings with First Vice President of the German Bundesrat, Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller, President of the Bundestag Wolfgang Schäuble, Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the States of the Southern Caucasus Johannes Kahrs and other members of the group.
The foreign policy of Azerbaijan, relations with Germany and EU, regional issues, including the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as interparliamentary cooperation were discussed at the meetings. The dynamic development of political, economic, scientific and cultural ties between the two countries, high-level visits between Germany and Azerbaijan, the contributions of both interparliamentary friendship groups to the bilateral ties, constructive cooperation between MPs of Milli Majlis and Bundestag within international organizations were emphasized at the meetings.
Ogtay Asadov highlighted Azerbaijan`s contribution to European energy security, including Germany and the huge energy and transport projects implemented by Azerbaijan in the region. The speaker informed of the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor, projects for the development of the North-South and West-East transport corridors. He also gave information about the policy pursued by Azerbaijan based on independent and national interests despite it located in the difficult geopolitical region, as well as the consequences of Armenia`s military aggression. Commending the German Bundestag`s resolution supporting the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Ogtay Asadov called on Germany, as a member of the Minsk group, to actively contribute to the settlement of the conflict. He invited Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble and First Vice President of the Bundesrat Michael Müller to visit Azerbaijan.
The German officials described Azerbaijan as an important economic partner of the country and hailed the deepening of cooperation between the two countries in all areas. The German MPs affirmed their readiness to support the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Ogtay Asadov was accompanied by Chairperson of the Parliament`s Committee for Families, Women and Children Agiya Nakhchivanli, head of the working group on the Azerbaijan-Germany interparliamentary relations Khanlar Fatiyev, Chairman of the Council of State Support for NGOs under the President of Azerbaijan Azay Guliyev and other officials.
