FAO holds stakeholder consultation meeting on development of sheep breeding sector

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) jointly with the State Agency for Agricultural Credits and Development under the Ministry of Agriculture organized a stakeholder consultation meeting on the development of the sheep breeding sector.
The main purpose of event was to proactively engage with relevant actors in the sheep value chain to understand the current status of the sub-sector for live sheep and processed sheep products (including meat, hides, skin and wool), pending and future challenges, and prospects for this sub-sector to contribute to employment, income, environmental and social benefits, and other important economic activities of the Azerbaijani population.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Safety Agency, other state agencies, associations, international organizations and private sector, farmers, as well as FAO international experts.
The meeting was organized within the framework of the project "Development and application of sustainable sheep production and food value chains" funded by the Government of Azerbaijan and implemented in the framework of FAO-Azerbaijan Partnership Programme since December 2018. The project aims to sustainably improve the performance of the sheep value chain to address current challenges in breeding and feeding strategies, animal health and transboundary disease control, together with product development and market linkage.
