Baku, January 8, AZERTAC
The 2019 edition of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations is set to be staged in Egypt, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has announced following a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee on Tuesday in Dakar, according to the official website of FIFA.
Set to be held from 15 June to 13 July, Cameroon had been initially in place to stage the continental championship, but were stripped of the rights on 30 November 2018 following organisational delays. They will host the 2021 tournament, with Côte d'Ivoire and Guinea welcoming the competition in 2023 and 2025 respectively.
Egypt, who reached the final two years ago only to suffer defeat to Cameroon, have hosted the Cup of Nations on four occasions - 1959, 1974, 1986 and 2006 - while have won it on seven occasions. Three of which have come as hosts, while they last lifted the trophy in 2010, their third successive triumph.
