Event highlighting Azerbaijan`s mugham to be held in London

A joint “Mugham in Azerbaijan: New trends and classical traditions” event to be hosted by the SOAS Music Department and the Vostok Society will be held in London, UK.
To be sponsored by The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) the event will host discussions on history of Azerbaijani mugham.
Since the late 19th century, musical instruments, forms of social communication, and stylistic elements of the mugham vocabulary come into musical practice, being regarded as alternative, then gaining popularity and finally acquiring the status of classical tradition.
The event will also feature discussions with mugham singer Gochag Askarov and French jazz singer Pierre de Tregoman.
